Sporting Clays

A little rain couldn’t keep the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation (FEF) from celebrating a record-breaking year at its 2026 Sporting Clays Tournament on Friday, October 2, at the Greater Houston Gun Club. The event brought together a record-breaking 77 teams, with sponsors, volunteers, and supporters showing up in full force to support FEF’s mission. This year’s tournament netted over $145,000 in support of innovative learning opportunities for FISD students and teachers.

Now in its twelfth year, the Sporting Clays Tournament continues to grow as one of the Foundation’s signature fundraising events, made possible by the incredible support of the Friendswood community.

Tournament Highlights

The tournament was full of exciting ways to play, compete, and win. Guests had the chance to enter a Raffle with seven prize drawings, a Gun Drawing with two exciting chances to win, and the popular Poker Chip Draw, which returned this year with an additional gun up for grabs. The Ladies Division returned for its second year, bringing even more women to the course and adding a fresh energy to the competition. Teams also took on the fast-paced Team Flurry challenge, while Gun Powder Golf added another fun twist to the day. With something happening on and off the course, the excitement never slowed down!

“This was my first Sporting Clays Tournament, and the level of participation and support throughout the day exceeded my expectations. It was incredible to see our teams not only enjoying the competition on the course, but also enthusiastically participating in the Raffle, Gun Drawing, Poker Chip Draw, and the many games and activities throughout the event. The energy and generosity of our participants truly made an impression on me and set a very high standard for my first Sporting Clays experience. Most importantly, it was wonderful to see our community come together in such a meaningful way to support FEF and the students and teachers of FISD.”

Mission in Action

The tournament also highlighted the impact of FEF support through several Mission Moments. FHS Engineering students used their grant-funded 3D printers to create this year’s tournament awards, while FHS Floral Design students brought FEF’s vision to life through beautiful floral arrangements. FHS Culinary Arts students rounded out the experience with their famous Mustang Sammies, which were a huge hit with guests. Students attended the tournament in the Legacy Grant Blooms & Bites vehicle, where they distributed desserts to guests and helped bring their culinary talents beyond the classroom and into the community. Together, these student contributions were a meaningful reminder of how FEF investments translate into real opportunities for FISD students.

“The students of FISD are our community’s greatest asset and what the foundation is all about. The ability to demonstrate our commitment to them is very important. Having the students involved is not only fun and showcases their abilities; it is also very rewarding for everyone participating.”

— Adam Ring, 2026 Sporting Clays Event Co-Chair

The day was filled with friendly competition, camaraderie, and fundraising, and FEF extends heartfelt thanks to Event Co-Chairs Travis Morris and Adam Ring, as well as the sponsors and underwriters who made the event possible, including Title Sponsors R-C Ranch, Shady Grove Fertility Houston, and Traylor Mechanical; Event Sponsors Armadillo Blast Coat, Frost Bank, Reactor Resources, LLC, The Flores Family, and UPS Industrial Services, LLC; and Event Underwriters SER Construction, Stanfield Properties, Alan & Beth Stanfield, The Banfield Family, The Handy Family, American West Wagyu, Kinsey Management, Sledge Custom Homes, Stifel, Ignatius Leonards, The Baldwin Group, and The Fletcher Family.

FEF is equally grateful to the 77 teams, volunteers, student groups, event partners, and supporters who showed up for FISD. Their generosity helped make this year’s tournament a huge success, raising $145,000+  to support innovative learning opportunities across Friendswood ISD.
