Friendswood Rotary Club Kicks Off Inaugural 12X12 Art Project Online Auction

The Friendswood Rotary Club kicked off the inaugural 12X12 Art Project this year with an online auction running from Nov. 9 through Dec. 9. All funds raised will be donated to the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation (FEF) to fund fine arts grants in FISD.

The mission of the Friendswood Rotary 12X12 Art Project is to feature the gifts of the artists of today while investing in the artists of tomorrow in the Friendswood community.

“The idea was inspired by a similar initiative of the Conroe Art League,” Friendswood Rotarian Dr. Rebecca Hillenburg said.

Hillenburg brought the idea to the Friendswood Rotary Club earlier this year and the vision for the 12X12 Art Project was formed.

Thirty-six participating artists donated their time and talent to create a 12X12 canvas.

Friendswood Frame & Gallery Owner and Rotarian Luis Briones came on board and his store served as a drop-off location for the completed artwork.

Briones loved hearing the unique story of each canvas as the artists turned in their pieces.

The cornerstone of the project is an online auction showcasing the talent of the participating artists including seven Friendswood High School art students and four Friendswood ISD art teachers.

“As Rotary President and a FEF Board Member, it has been so rewarding to see this collaborative project come to life,” Judy Wiggins said.

The auction features a variety of styles and mediums ranging from clay to fabric to epoxy resin and acrylic paints. There is something for everyone and the pieces also make for a great Christmas gift this holiday season.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to partner with Rotary, support local artists and fund fine arts grants across the district,” FEF Executive Director and Rotarian Ashley Adair said. “It’s a win all around.”
