During the Friendswood ISD (FISD) Board of Trustees meeting last month, the FISD Education Foundation (FEF) celebrated scholarships awarded to 17 FISD educators through the Foundation’s Continuing Education Scholarship Program. The program, established in 2024, is designed to empower and invest in FISD employees by providing them with opportunities to pursue continuing education. The scholarships were made possible by a generous gift from Drs. Sara and Glenn Freedman, whose donation enabled the launch of the program in Spring 2024. Dr. Glenn Freedman was present at the meeting to celebrate the recipients of both the Spring and Fall 2024 scholarships. His ongoing support is integral to the Foundation’s efforts to strengthen teacher recruitment, retention, and professional development within the district.
The FEF Continuing Education Scholarship Program supports educators who are pursuing a range of educational goals, including Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorate degrees, graduate hours to teach Dual Credit courses, Alternative Certification Programs, and National Board Teacher Certification cohort memberships. These scholarships not only benefit the individual recipients but also have a lasting impact on the educational experience for FISD students. In its inaugural year, the Foundation awarded 20 scholarships totaling $33,200.
"We are deeply grateful to Dr. Freedman and the Foundation for their incredible generosity and commitment to the future of our educators," FISD Superintendent Thad J. Roher said.
