FISD Education Foundation Wins TEFN Outstanding Achievement Award

The Friendswood ISD Education Foundation (FEF) has been selected as the recipient of the 2020 Texas Education Foundation Network (TEFN) Outstanding Achievement Award. The honor is awarded to the Foundation for the Mustang Association Student Grant Committee Meetings.

The TEFN Outstanding Achievement Award was created to recognize excellence and exceptional performance of Texas school foundations that are impactful, innovative, outcome-driven and make a difference for their schools and districts.

FEF hosted the inaugural Student Grant Committee Meetings in Nov. 2019 where a group of students selected grants to purchase with the funds raised on their campus through FEF’s Mustang Association campaign. The meetings were tailored to each age group and concluded with a vote giving each student a voice and choice in how to invest the funds. The collaborative effort between FEF’s Board of Directors, Executive Director, District administrators, campus principals and parents of participating students helped to teach students about nonprofits, philanthropy and strategic decision-making.

“I am thrilled to see the collaborative efforts of so many who helped bring this project to life be recognized in this way,” FEF Executive Director Ashley Adair said. “I look forward to pursuing many more student-centered, award-winning projects with FISD and the Foundation.”

The Friendswood ISD Education Foundation will receive a $2,000 grant from the Texas Pioneer Foundation and will be recognized during the TEFN Annual Conference in San Marcos scheduled for April 15-16, 2021.

“We are excited to recognize the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation and their Student Grant Committee Meetings which represents the type of excellence and innovation that makes a positive, impactful difference for their district, the students and their community,” said Michelle Coburn, Program Director for Texas Pioneer Foundation.

The Texas Education Foundation Network is a program of the Texas Pioneer Foundation. TEFN was launched in 2012 and created to support local education foundations in Texas by providing networking opportunities, sharing of best practices and providing training and resources needed for foundations to be successful.
