FISD Education Foundation Launches #WeAreMighty Marathon

The Friendswood ISD Education Foundation (FEF) launched the #WeAreMighty Marathon fundraising campaign on July 28 with a $100,000 goal. The mission of the campaign is to provide resources to support in-person and virtual learning in FISD this fall.

FEF kicked things off with a $17,671.21 donation to fund the district-wide Zoom membership which will serve as FISD’s synchronous learning platform this year. This donation was comprised of funds from FEF’s annual STEM grant as well as funds raised from #WeAreMighty merchandise sales.

FISD Superintendent Thad Roher said he has seen the Foundation continually step up to serve the District in times of need. 

“During Hurricane Harvey, the Foundation generated over $200,000 to be distributed to flooded staff to help with recovery,” Roher said. “Now, in a pandemic, the Foundation is stepping up once again to provide a tool that will be the driver of virtual learning in 2020-2021. This partnership is evidence of the shared vision for what is ahead for FISD.”

As of Aug. 19, the campaign has raised more than $27,477.08 to fund resources such as math manipulatives, BAS literacy bundles, special education resources, carts for rotating teachers and other unique needs that continue to arise as the first day of school approaches.

“Our mission has not changed,” FEF Board President Kelly Lovell said. “In fact, it has never been more powerful as we embark on a year of redefined innovation, unique student engagement and vital relationships.”

While the Foundation may be living out its mission in new ways, the organization’s commitment to supporting all students in FISD remains the same.

“The 2020-2021 school year will be a marathon not a sprint,” FEF Executive Director Ashley Adair said. “We are choosing to embrace that as a Foundation and stay rooted in the unwavering truth that we will cross the finish line because together, we are mighty.”
