FISD Education Foundation Kicks Off #WeAreMighty Movement

The Friendswood ISD Education Foundation (FEF) raised more than $11,000 for FISD employees through its #WeAreMighty campaign which began on Apr. 1. FEF partnered with the District to sell merchandise including t-shirts, decals and yard signs with the original #WeAreMighty logo.

The campaign was started not only as a way to support FISD staff, but also to rally the community together in the midst of the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. Since then, the #WeAreMighty movement has truly become an anthem of hope across the city.

One of the goals of the campaign is to maintain relationships and connections in the community during this time of social distancing. FEF coordinated a Health Hero Card Drive and collected over 840 cards that were distributed to five groups of health heroes across the community including Memorial Hermann Southeast, UTMB Health Clear Lake, HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake, Houston Methodist Clear Lake, the Friendswood Police Department and Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department.

Student cards ranged from pre-k all the way up to seniors in high school, and while each was personalized, the common thread of sincere gratitude and hope stood out in all.

“My favorite part was seeing the unique ways our kids express themselves whether it was through stickers and glitter, unbelievable art pieces, poems, riddles and more,” FEF Executive Director Ashley Adair said. “They were all able to connect with health heroes in our community in a special way. Those connections are what #WeAreMighty is all about.”

Another goal of the campaign is to encourage and support FISD teachers, administrators and staff.

This year, rather than naming one Teacher of the Year per campus, FISD recognized all 780+ FISD employees as the 2020 FISD Employees of the Year.

The Foundation hosted a “Pop By Pep Rally” celebration on May 18 where all FISD employees drove through to receive a commemorative cup, fresh popcorn, and a $5 gift card for a sweet treat at a local business. FEF Directors cheered on staff with music, posters and Mighty the mascot.

“The Pop By Pep Rally was the perfect way to honor the hard work, creativity and resilience of our employees,” Adair said. “It also provided a great opportunity for us to support many local businesses that have invested so much in the Foundation this year.”

As uncertainties surrounding the coronavirus persist, the #WeAreMighty movement continues to remind Friendswood of the strength, hope, and comfort found in community and that together, #WeAreMighty.
