FISD Education Foundation Hosts Record-Breaking Sporting Clays Tournament

With the sun shining and a slight coolness in the air, the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation (FEF) hosted its annual Sporting Clays Tournament on Friday, Oct. 2 at the Greater Houston Gun Club. The Foundation welcomed 150 guests for an afternoon of fun, fellowship and friendly competition that raised over $52,000.

With 38 teams entered, the Foundation doubled the size of the event from the previous year and recruited more sponsors and underwriters than ever before.

“What an amazing day,” Event Chair and FEF Director Brad Freyer said. “Not only did we have perfect weather but we had a record-breaking show of support for the Education Foundation and the District.”

Title Sponsor and FEF Director Kenny Koncaba with Texan Bank agreed.

“I had both people I know and those I did not tell me what a great time they had,” Koncaba said. “Everyone told me they are coming back next year with their own teams and telling others about the event.”

In addition to the tournament, participants enjoyed lunch, games like Gun Powder Golf and a team flurry. Over 580 raffle tickets were sold and three lucky winners went home with a Traeger Pro 780 grill, large Big Green Egg and Yeti Tundra Haul Cooler.

Top teams were awarded champion Yeti tumblers while the last place team received toy dart guns to ‘practice’ for next year.

FEF Executive Director Ashley Adair said the event was a true celebration of the strength and resilience of FISD and the community.

“In a year when it would be easy to pull back, our community has stepped up to rally around our students and teachers,” Adair said. “We got to witness the perfect example of the meaning behind #WeAreMighty in action.”

Freyer agreed.

“I could not be more grateful for the sponsors, volunteers and participants that made this year’s Sporting Clays Tournament one for the books,” Freyer said. “The bar has been raised and the energy and momentum will only continue to grow next year.”

All funds raised from the event will support the Foundation’s mission of supporting and enhancing FISD by providing innovative and engaging learning opportunities for all students through meaningful relationships.

Top event sponsors and underwriters included Texan Bank, Reactor Resources, Texas First Bank, Magnuson Ace Hardware, Banfield Properties, Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union, HomeTown Bank of Friendswood, Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital, JJ’s Car Wash, JMK5 Holdings, Kelly & Charlotte Hall, and Stedman West Interests.
