Annual State of the District Event Donates 10% of Proceeds to Friendswood Education Foundation

On Thursday, Sept. 5, Friendswood ISD and the Friendswood Chamber of Commerce came together to host the fourth annual State of the District event at First Baptist Church in Friendswood. The event drew approximately 160 attendees, who gathered to learn more about the District’s latest initiatives and accomplishments. Guests were welcomed by students from various Friendswood High School programs, including INCubatorEDU, Robotics, Audio-Video Production, Culinary Arts, Theatre, Football, Volleyball, Crime Scene Investigation, FFA, and Floral Design. Additionally, booths from the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation and FISD Cares, a project of The Alliance, showcased how they support the students, staff and families of FISD. Superintendent Thad Roher served as the keynote speaker, opening his remarks by celebrating Friendswood ISD’s 85th anniversary. He honored the legacy of those who built the foundation of the District and set the stage for its continued success. Roher then offered attendees a virtual tour of the recently renovated Friendswood High School through engaging drone footage, emphasizing that while facilities are important, the heart of the District lies in the collaboration between teachers and students. In his address, Roher outlined FISD’s key initiatives for the year, including a focus on authentic learning experiences, the importance of literacy, the growth seen since adopting standards-based learning and grading, safety improvements, and school finance. He concluded with a call to action for the community to come together and support students and teachers. “Our State of the District event is a special opportunity to connect with our community and showcase the incredible work happening in Friendswood ISD,” Roher said. “It is a celebration of our past, our present, and the shared vision we have for the future of our students." The event was made possible by the generous support of sponsors, including Associated Credit Union of Texas, AMOCO Federal Credit Union, Bayway Auto Group, Frost Bank, HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake, Stanfield Properties, HomeTown Bank of Friendswood, Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital, Security 101, Texas Family Wealth, and UTMB Health. Friendswood ISD extends its gratitude to the Chamber for its ongoing support, with 10 percent of the event’s proceeds benefiting the FISD Education Foundation.
